A small project about the golden days
Last updated: September 12, 2026
Gomi's Golden Days is an independent, family-run website about noticing and caring for the dogs we love as they grow older.
It began with one dog. Gomi is an 11-pound Yorkshire Terrier — a "Super Yorkie" who, at age eleven, faced a serious health scare. That moment changed how our family saw the ordinary days: the slow morning stretches, the nap in a sunbeam, the way a familiar face waits by the door. We started writing those small things down so we wouldn't lose them. That habit became the journal, and the journal became this site.
What you'll find here
- The Dog Age Calculator — a free, size-aware estimate of your dog's age in human years, based on the AAHA physiological age chart rather than the old "multiply by seven" myth.
- Senior dog care guides — articles on everyday changes in mobility, appetite, sleep, and comfort, combining life with Gomi and links to veterinary guidance and research.
- Gomi's story — the personal story behind the project.
- The Golden Days journal — a 90-day guided memory & care journal we made for senior dogs and the people who love them.
- Gomi's Favorites — a short, honest list of products we actually use with Gomi.
Who runs this site
Gomi's Golden Days is written and maintained by Gomi's family. It is a personal project, not a veterinary practice or a large company. We share what we've learned as ordinary dog owners — always with the reminder that nothing here replaces advice from a licensed veterinarian.
Our articles are signed “Gomi's human.” You can see more of our life with Gomi at @gomithesuperyorkie.
How we put our guides together
Our care guides bring together observations from life with Gomi and published veterinary guidance and research. We link to sources so readers can explore the evidence and its context for themselves.
Gomi's experience is one dog's story, not proof that the same thing will happen to another dog. Research findings also have limits: the dogs studied, the setting, and the questions asked can all affect what a result means for your own pet.
We write as dog owners, not as veterinarians. These guides are intended to help you notice changes and prepare questions for your vet, not to diagnose or treat a condition. If you spot a factual error or a broken source link, please let us know through our contact page.
How we keep the lights on
This site is partly supported through affiliate links (including the Amazon Associates program) and sales of the Golden Days journal. When you buy through some of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things we would use with our own dog. You can read the full affiliate disclosure for details.
Want to say hello or share a story about your own dog? Visit our contact page — we'd love to hear it.
